22 April 2013
GOVERNMENT plans to ease the restrictions on technology workers moving to Ireland will help make the country one of the most attractive in the world to set up a tech business, writes Peter Flanagan.
That is the view of one of the leading immigration lawyers in the country, Jane Pilkington of Mason, Hayes & Curran.
Under plans revealed by Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton, the Government will increase the number of named positions companies can hire from overseas from four to 24, and amend the visa application procedures to make it easier to bring in staff from outside the European Economic Area.
"There is an acknowledged worldwide shortage of ICT professionals which has led to global competition to attract their talents – easing these rules will be of great benefit to the country," she said.
"The Government has expanded the scope of the ICT visa scheme. . . that will only be positive for the economy," she added.
